Vitex agnus-castus has no established classical Sanskrit identity; Nirgundi ordinarily refers to Vitex negundo, a different species. The energetics given here are a contemporary Ayurvedic interpretation, not a classical attribution, and powdered chaste-tree fruit should not be represented as a classical Nirgundi churna or kashaya.

Farklı geleneklerde

Contemporary Ayurvedic herbalists sometimes interpret the fruit as bitter-pungent and warming, tending to settle vata and kapha while increasing pitta. Its use for menstrual concerns is an incorporation of Western herbal practice, rather than an established classical Ayurvedic indication.

Farkındalık ritüeli

Pause beside a living chaste tree, or contemplate a picture of its violet flower spikes, and take three unhurried breaths. Let the ritual be one of attention rather than an invitation to self-prescribe a hormone-active herb.

Etkin bileşikler

  • DiterpenesSome isolated diterpenes show dopamine-receptor activity in laboratory studies, a possible contributor to effects on prolactin signaling.
  • AgnusideAn iridoid glycoside used as a quality-control marker; its independent contribution to clinical benefits remains uncertain.
  • CasticinA flavonoid used in extract characterization, with anti-inflammatory activity in laboratory research; its clinical contribution is unclear. Visual compound weights are illustrative emphasis, not measured composition or proven contributions to benefit.

Bitki hakkında

Chaste tree is a deciduous shrub or small tree in the mint family, native to the Mediterranean region and western Asia. It grows along streams and other seasonally moist places, and is cultivated in sunny gardens worldwide.

Its aromatic leaves divide into five to seven narrow leaflets, and its upright spikes carry small lilac to violet flowers. The flowers develop into dark, peppercorn-sized fruits, commonly called chasteberries, which are the principal medicinal part.

Keşif

Ancient Greek and Roman writers described chaste tree in connection with reproductive health and chastity; its reputation for suppressing sexual desire helped give it its common name, but that reputation is not established clinical evidence. European herbal traditions later used the fruits for menstrual complaints. Modern researchers investigated standardized fruit extracts after clinical observations suggested benefits for premenstrual symptoms, exploring effects on dopamine signaling and prolactin regulation rather than assuming that the berries simply supply female hormones.

Geleneksel kullanımlar

  • Relief of premenstrual discomfort, including irritability and breast tenderness.
  • Support for irregular menstrual cycles.
  • Use for menstrual-associated breast pain.
  • Historical use to influence milk production; effectiveness and safety during breastfeeding are not established.

Araştırma ayrıntıları

Premenstrual symptom relief · Ön bulgular

None of the supplied excerpts directly reports results for premenstrual symptom relief. The adolescent menstrual-disorder case series does not identify premenstrual symptom outcomes in the provided text.

Cyclic breast pain relief · Ön bulgular

None of the supplied sources directly evaluates cyclic breast pain relief, so benefit or lack of benefit cannot be established from this source set.

Fertility support · Ön bulgular

None of the supplied excerpts directly reports fertility outcomes such as ovulation, pregnancy, or live birth. The PCOS studies examine hormonal, metabolic, or menstrual measures, which do not establish improved fertility; the human trial excerpts also omit results.

Nasıl kullanılır?

  • If considering it for PMS, choose a quality-tested fruit extract that specifies its preparation and standardization. Different extract strengths are not interchangeable.
  • Some studied and European-authorized preparations use 20 mg of a specific dry extract once daily. This is not equivalent to 20 mg of powdered berries; follow the particular product instructions and professional advice.
  • Track symptoms over two to three menstrual cycles and reassess after about three months. Seek advice if symptoms persist, worsen, or substantially affect daily life.
  • Capsules, tablets, and tinctures are common preparations, but evidence mainly concerns particular extracts—not homemade berry tea.

Güvenlik

  • Possible adverse effects include nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, acne, rash, and changes in menstrual bleeding.
  • Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is generally not recommended for children or adolescents without specialist advice.
  • Consult a clinician first if you have a hormone-sensitive condition or a pituitary disorder. Chasteberry may affect prolactin regulation and could complicate assessment of an underlying problem.
  • Long-term safety is not well established. Severe mood symptoms, unexplained bleeding, a breast lump, or persistent breast pain need medical evaluation.

İlaç etkileşimleri

  • Possible interaction with hormonal contraceptives: clinical evidence is limited, but an effect on contraceptive action cannot be excluded. Discuss use with a pharmacist or prescriber.
  • May interact with hormone therapy, fertility medicines, or antiestrogen treatments such as tamoxifen; avoid combining without specialist guidance.
  • May oppose or alter the effects of dopamine-related medicines, including antipsychotics, metoclopramide, and dopamine agonists such as cabergoline.
