Geleneksel bilgelik

Shallaki

Classical Ayurvedic descriptions give Shallaki cooling energy and a pungent post-digestive effect, with particular affinity for calming pitta and kapha. Its gum-resin is used in powdered preparations and external applications for swelling and wounds; bark preparations include kashaya, or decoction.

Farklı geleneklerde

Shallaki is a resin-bearing tree, not another name for guggulu: the two resins have distinct identities. Ayurvedic practice draws on both its gum-resin and its astringent bark, selecting the preparation for the intended use.

Farkındalık ritüeli

Place a small piece of unburned resin in a dish and pause beside it for three gentle breaths, noticing its pale surface and quiet fragrance. Let this be a moment of attention rather than a dose of medicine.

Etkin bileşikler

  • Acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA)A widely studied resin constituent that affects inflammatory signaling in laboratory experiments; its absorption and contribution to clinical benefits depend on the formulation.
  • 11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (KBA)Investigated for effects on inflammatory enzymes and signaling, principally in laboratory studies.
  • Beta-boswellic acidA major boswellic acid with laboratory evidence of effects on inflammatory pathways.
  • Acetyl-beta-boswellic acidAnother resin triterpene that may contribute to the extract's biological activity; independent human benefits are not established.

Bitki hakkında

Indian frankincense is a deciduous tree in the incense family, Burseraceae, native to the Indian subcontinent. It grows in dry tropical forests and rocky, hilly landscapes, where it tolerates seasonal drought.

The tree has pale, papery bark, compound leaves with toothed leaflets, and small cream-colored flowers. Cuts in the bark release an aromatic gum-resin that hardens into yellowish or amber tears; this resin, rather than the bark itself, is used medicinally.

Keşif

Known in Ayurveda as shallaki, Boswellia serrata has a long history of use for painful joints and inflammatory complaints. Its reputation developed through generations of traditional practice, not a single documented discovery. Modern researchers subsequently isolated boswellic acids from its resin and investigated their effects on inflammatory pathways, followed by small clinical trials of standardized extracts, particularly for knee osteoarthritis.

Geleneksel kullanımlar

  • In Ayurvedic practice, resin preparations were used for painful or swollen joints.
  • Traditional preparations were used for digestive complaints, including diarrhea and dysentery.
  • The resin was used for respiratory complaints such as cough and wheezing.
  • External preparations were used for skin complaints and wound care; these historical uses do not establish effectiveness.

Araştırma ayrıntıları

Knee osteoarthritis pain relief · Ön bulgular

None of the supplied sources directly evaluates knee osteoarthritis pain relief. Source 1 studies experimental pain in healthy volunteers, not knee osteoarthritis, so it does not establish this benefit.

Knee osteoarthritis function improvement · Ön bulgular

None of the supplied sources directly evaluates function improvement in people with knee osteoarthritis. The supplied material therefore provides no direct findings, positive or null, for this claim.

Nasıl kullanılır?

  • For joint symptoms, oral capsules containing standardized Boswellia serrata resin extract are the best-studied preparation. Choose products with independent quality testing when available.
  • Doses are formulation-specific: some enriched extracts have been studied at 100–250 mg daily, while conventional extracts have been studied at several hundred milligrams two or three times daily. These products are not interchangeable; confirm the product and dose with a pharmacist or clinician.
  • If your clinician agrees, reassess pain and daily function after about 4–8 weeks. Stop if there is no meaningful benefit; the best duration of ongoing use is unknown.
  • Use it alongside, not instead of, appropriate joint care. Resin tea, incense, and frankincense essential oil are not equivalent to studied oral extracts; do not swallow essential oil.

Güvenlik

  • Possible adverse effects include nausea, heartburn, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and allergic rash.
  • Avoid medicinal use during pregnancy or breastfeeding because adequate safety data are lacking. Safety and appropriate dosing in children are not established.
  • Long-term safety remains uncertain, and commercial extracts vary substantially in composition. Compound weights in the visual data indicate illustrative research emphasis, not measured resin percentages or proven contributions to benefit.
  • A hot, red, suddenly swollen joint, especially with fever, needs prompt medical assessment rather than self-treatment.

İlaç etkileşimleri

  • Laboratory findings suggest possible effects on platelets. Check with a clinician before combining boswellia with anticoagulants or antiplatelet medicines such as warfarin, apixaban, or clopidogrel; the clinical bleeding risk is not well established.
  • Laboratory studies suggest effects on some drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters, but their importance in people is uncertain. Ask a pharmacist to review prescription medicines, particularly those requiring closely controlled blood levels.

  1. Doğru bitki. Türün tam Latince adını belirtmelidir. "Ginseng" gibi yaygın adlar birden fazla bitkiyi kapsar.
